This is an ongoing series in which I answer every question from “The Book of Questions” by Gregory Stock.
For a person you loved deeply, would you be willing to move to a distant country knowing there would be little chance of seeing your friends and family again?Stock, Gregory: The Book of Questions 1987
First of all remember that the book was written in the 1980s so this question implies trade offs that are no longer given in today’s world. So my answer would be a YES. I don’t have much family left anyway and I stay in touch with most friends via digital media anyway. And what is stopping me from making new friends in the new place anyway?
The tricky part is rather the premise of a “person you loved deeply”. Deep love does not mean that two people will have a stable and satisfying partnership. And everything that starts out with deep love ends up with daily life, routine and lack of excitement. Navigating these waters is the difficult part and not if you can meet your family or friends every other week.
